Enjoying a nice cigar or pipe with a Whiskey or Liqueur is an age-old tradition.

In recent years I have tried a number of different cigars and at the end of the day, they just do not agree with me. My brother Dan introduced me to pipe tobacco. One day at his house we were drinking Don Julio 1942 and he let me try his Savinelli pipe and I was hooked. It didn’t give me a headache and my mustache didn’t stink for two days.

To be up front, I am not a huge pipe smoker but I go out with the boys once a month and smoke at our Whiskey meetups while they puff and chomp on their cigars like George Burns.

The great thing about pipe tobacco is that it compliments Whiskey, Rum, Cognac and Amaro. With different flavor profiles of the tobacco leaf like a Louisville Cavendish, it goes perfectly with a Cynar or Averna on the rocks. When you have an Anisette flavored tobacco Lucano Anniversario is a match made in heaven.

Getting into pipe tobacco smoking is fairly cheap compared to cigars. Look for local Cigar shops that cell Pipe Tobacco. Savinelli Pipes have been handmade in the Lake Como region since 1876.
